Quiet World transports you into Sarah Harvey’s underwater world and away from the sanctuary of the familiar. Twisted figures suggest Surrealism, though conversely this effect is produced by a highly realistic representation of the effects of water, one of the many inversions Harvey’s paintings invoke. Whilst first impressions reveal a generous splash of colour and flesh, closer inspection turns over a darker core. Sarah Harvey’s Quiet world of magnificent paintings is both an escape and adventure.
“My paintings of figures floating are predominantly self portraits. I aim to create paintings that arouse both a sense of well being and pleasure, whilst simultaneously suggesting notions of insecurity, fantasy and sexuality.” Sarah Harvey
